RazorBladeKisses Return With New Album

RazorBladeKisses return with “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar,” an album that promises to carry the listener through a spine tingling musical journey contrasting the mystical atmospheric, trip-hop soundscapes of “No Strings Attached” and “The Butterfly,” with the anthemic rock offerings such as tracks “New Nightmare” and “Teddy” that come complete with powerful riffs and rhythmic, pounding drum patterns. This album delivers what can only be described as beautifully haunting magical music.

“An intoxicating mix of rock, goth, opera and eastern promise…” Get Ready To Rock

Although now residing in Southampton, vocalists Layla and Azadeh draw from their distant Persian / Iranian roots to conjure up ideas for their profound lyrics, taking inspiration from Persian fairytales and mythology that they would read at bedtime when they were children; an example on the album being the aforementioned “The Butterfly” which was inspired by “This Bird is Going to Die,” a poem by famous Iranian poet ‘Forough Farrokhzad’. Persian tales tend to have a sinister edge which is conveyed through the fantasy world RazorBladeKisses create with their lyrics and music. The mysterious lyrics and brooding melodies throughout the album continue to lure and tease the listener into a false sense of security whilst pushing musical boundaries. The contrast between the fierce and elegant vocals is forever conveyed, courtesy of the simply stunning voices of Layla and Azadeh. RazorBladeKisses also consists of Andi (bass), Steve (drums), Jacqui (guitar) and Phil (violin) who all add their own heavenly chilling sounds to each track, from the sensual strings to the compelling and almighty riffs. The combination of haunting harmonies and unique vocal ability with amazing musicianship allows the haunting memories from the days of childhood to come streaming back on first listen to sweetly spooky stories like “Alice” and “Pretty Dead Doll”, whilst also offering a perfect soundtrack for either a cold autumn day, or a soul chiller of a hot summer night. A seductively, deceiving album that sustains its intention of intriguing the listener until the very end.

In August 2009, RazorBladeKisses released the double A-side single “Ballerina” / “The Butterfly” which was met with a wave of critical acclaim.
