The 6th Bestival has come to an end and we can safely say that our 'Year of the Spectacular' has been out of this world, blessed with four super sun-drenched days of music, mirth and mad-cap fun. We've enjoyed incredible sets from over 300 bands and DJs on 18 stages, including crowd-melting moments from Florence & The Machine, Mika, Bat for Lashes, Klaxons, Seasick Steve, Massive Attack, Michael Nyman, Elbow a mind-blowing spectacle from Kraftwerk the like of which the Isle of Wight has never seen, thrilling all with their genre generating classics. And as ever the incredible Bestival crowd helped spread the extra-special Bestival magic that made 2009 one of the craziest Bestival's of all time, so thanks to each and everyone of you that came and made it so special!
Our Outer Space fancy dress theme was so popular that in the pre-festival frenzy there was no tinfoil left on the Isle of Wight and the local B&Q had completely sold out of Altern8 style boilers suits, art shops as far away as London struggled to meet the demand for silver paint and there were record breaking queues in fancy dress shops across the country.
Opening our doors on Thursday 25,000 people arrived on site to take full advantage of our four days of astronomically ace entertainment that included and an appearance from Lily Allen that will go down in Bestival lore as one of the greatest as she helped make our star-studded bash truly cosmic. Pants to Poverty retook their Guinness World Record on Sunday afternoon gathering the most people ever assembled in just their pants and Oxfam's 'Shout 'til you are Blue in the Face' got the entire main stage crowd screaming for a whole minute to demand action on climate change. Our new site design was a real hit too with the pyrotechnic delights of the Fire Field that included the stunning Afterburner stage and the dazzling Blastival, proving especially popular with the late night congregation.
