The Yeah You's - Looking Through You
Album Review

The Yeah You’s – Looking Through You

English pop rock duo Nick Ingram and Mike Kintish, a.k.a The Yeah You’s have created a masterpiece. ‘Looking Through You’ will put a big smile on your face and a warm feeling inside the pit of your stomach as it plays.

The album has already spawned two singles, but includes many tastier treats. Through practically every single song there is a sound so large your ears could explode; full instrumentation with lots of enjoyable melodies. Some are poppy such as the opener, there are a few that are more electro inclined such as ‘Clifftop’, some such as ‘Dive In’ are slick and ripe with rhythms and others like ‘Getting Up With You’ have a bright disposition. As well as the bubbly numbers, there are some slower ones. The atmosphere that follows ‘Won’t Be Long’ is hotter and more seductive while ‘If I’d Only Said Hello’ is practically acoustic and ‘It’s Happening To Me’ is a song that has a large sound with very little effort.

The vocals are the dominant feature here, always sitting high on a pedestal above the music, but still managing to intertwine through the melodies. Not only are the main vocals strong and endearing, with the occasional Darren Hayes high-pitched tone, but there are harmonies that could be considered quite anthematic, as they are so connected and as if a single unit operating as one.

With the combination of engrossing melodies that get you caught up and twisted inside and the longing vocals, the lyrics scream at you to sing-a-long. As a live performance, you can imagine the entire venue would be singing and waving their arms along to the music. This will be the start of some memorable events for The Yeah You’s.
