Country folk has come thick and fast this year. There has been so many releases in fact that it’s a wonder why it isn’t in the press and TV more often as the sheer volume of releases would suggest something that demands mainstream status. Either that or there are a lot of artists out there taking heavy risks.
Whilst McKeown tries his hand a range of things, sadly it is the slow dancing numbers he seems best at (see “Can’t Be Right” for a prime example). And this is at best an imitation of something that has been done better in the past.
Those easily pleased with their Easy Acoustical Easy listening won’t have any problems. The rest of us may smell the stench of cheese that was once long forgotten. For select groups only then.
