Not bringing anything fresh to the indie rock table, the Cinemantics provide a serviceable album in these autumn months.
Sounding like Pulp crossed with the Jam, the album “Love and Terror” is a morbid journey about things on fire, dead ducks, Weapons, War and that old classic of disappointing encounters with the opposite sex. It isn’t all doom and gloom like we’ve heard before though.
Without becoming too much of a cliché, the band manage to write and perform with some panache and the album stands together as a whole pretty well. The songs on their own however aren’t quite as strong as the unified whole. Some bands out there can write very inspiring songs, others write albums. The Cinematics are the latter.
