Singer-songwriter Lana sounds like great fun on this single. Lyrically notable for its gender-swapping perspective and irreverent wordplay (‘I’m Ruthless now that Ruth’s gone’), there’s also an infectious swagger about Lana’s smoky vocals on the a-side and it’s catchy enough to be instantly accessible.
B-side ‘Romance’ is a pretty tidy piece of songwriting too, a foot-tapping retro number delivered with sexy panache. Lana has a unique songwriting voice and if these two tracks are representative of her oeuvre, then she stands a chance of finding bigger recognition for her obvious talent.
