It is quite hard reviewing compilation albums and soundtracks such as this from ‘Jennifer’s Body’ because you only ever hear a snippet, a four-minute sing your heart out song from each contributing band. Whether you have seen the film or not doesn’t really matter as even if you have, unless it was a musical, which is pretty obvious this is not, then the music is usually the last thing you are going to pay attention to when there is blood, violence or action on the screen.
Even though there are some incredibly talented musicians on this release such as Panic at the Disco, Hayley Williams, Cute is What We Aim For and All Time Low among many others with each creating a passionate song, if you are unable to make the link between film narrative and song, then you are pretty much listening to a CD compilation of tracks that bare no resemblance or connection with each other. The only track that did have some connection with the film is ‘Through the Trees’ by Low Shoulder. The band, which consists of the OC’s Adam Brody, is made entirely for the film and therefore will only have this one song, which is a shame as it was pretty amazing.
Unless a film actually has some musical aspects like Grease, Footlose or even Titanic, then there is simply no point of a soundtrack.
