On Saturday night Morrissey was hospitalized after collapsing on-stage in Swindon. The singer has since been discharged and is on the road to recovery. Now, I’ve seen Morrissey live a couple of times the first time he had to cancel shows due to ill health and this year he cancelled shows once again to ill health. But, bear in mind this is a 50 year old man and if any of you have seen him live you will know that he puts as much into his shows now as he did in his younger years with The Smiths. He still roams around on stage draping himself over speakers, so it’s not too surprising that touring may be a bit of a strain. You see Morrissey’s not fifty in the sense that Madonna’s fifty, if you know what I mean. Granted Madonna is starting to defy science with her seemingly none aging ability, let’s face it she’s got a better body than most women half her age. And the gruelling workouts and health regime she’s followed with military precision since her late twenties has meant that the wonder woman herself can still tour the world with mucho gusto. However Mozza, to my knowledge, hasn’t and it seems the harsh effects of touring are taking their toll. Now I’m a massive Morrissey fan, he is nothing short of lyrical genius, so I’m wishing him all the best, hoping he takes care of himself and is still touring for many years to come.
In other news it has been alleged by members of Michael Jackson’s family that stand-ins where hired for the Michael Jackson’s This Is It film. The News of the World reports that Jackson’s dad Joe and sister La Toya have accused Sony Pictures of using Jackson impersonators. La Toya’s business partner Jeffre Phillips told the newspaper that: “I don’t believe most of those shots were Michael. He wasn’t well enough.” Who knows? Yet it seems even in death controversy still surrounds him.
