Taken from Dead Confederate’s first full-length album ‘Wrecking Ball’ this single ‘The Rat’ explores the style of music that Dead Confederate is aiming to achieve success with, slightly psychedelic alternative rock.
As the track begins, a mysterious ambiance takes hold through the use of guitar melodies and vocals build to a crashing outcome, which is more detectable on choruses. The music and vocals are very similar in a sense that the music is rather rugged and the vocals become quite gruff on the more boisterous chorus.
The band is confident and comfortable in the way they produce their music and never overpower a listener with more sounds than they can handle. Having said that, there is a lot of potential within this song, but no matter how many times you listen, it never seems to fulfil its potential. Dead Confederate is on the right track and with some hard work, which these guys are obviously capable of, they will create many more amazing tracks in the future.
