Brakes – Why Tell The Truth/ Worry About It Later

A double A-sided CD single may be something of a technological oxymoron, although that’s exactly how this offering from Brighton’s Brakes is billed. The band’s reputation is perhaps higher in US, where they are known as BrakesBrakesBrakes to avoid confusion with Philadelphia jam band The Breaks. But this release may redress the balance somewhat if UK radio stations pick it up and play it sufficiently often.

Why Tell The Truth is a satirical take on the banking crisis and credit crunch, starting with an acoustic verse before kicking it up a notch to become a vibrant country tinged rocker. Worry About It Later, perhaps the more polished of the two tracks, is bright and folky, with its fast paced lyrical delivery and chiming guitars. But both songs deserve to be widely played and the video for the former, which was filmed on Wall Street, is a very fine piece of work.
