Phantom Limb Release Album & Announce Headline Tour

Bristol’s best-kept secret Phantom Limb will round off a successful 2009 with a UK tour that will show audiences just why they are held in such high regard. With support slots for Massive Attack, Beth Rowley and Candi Staton already under their belts, and after supporting Will Young on his November tour, the band will appear at the following venues in December:

Tuesday 8th – The Ruby Lounge, Manchester £6.50
Wednesday 9th – Nice and Sleazy, Glasgow £7 adv.
Thursday 10th – The Cluny 2, Newcastle £6 adv.
Sunday 13th – The Yardbird, Birmingham £6 adv. (seated show)
Monday 14th – The Latest Music Bar, Brighton £7 adv.
Tuesday 15th – Bush Hall, London £10
Wednesday 16th – BBC Intro @ Oakford Social Club, Reading £6 adv.
Thursday 17th – Arlington Arts Centre, Newbury £6 adv. (seated show)

This year has certainly been a busy one for the band, having become the go-to producers for a whole host of British stars. Will Young was so impressed with their sound that multi-instrumentalist Stew Jackson and lead singer Yolanda Quartey wrote his new single “Hopes and Fears” for him. The track was produced by Stew and bassist Dan Brown under their “Robot Club” guise, which has also seen them writing and producing for Massive Attack’s long-awaited new album. In amongst all this they somehow found time to write and release their debut self-titled album, a gospel and country-tinged collection that led BBC Online to declare they “may well be the most musically sophisticated (and satisfying) band the UK has produced in far too long a time”.

Now Phantom Limb bring their soul-infused sound to their own headline tour, just what can audiences expect? Yolanda explains “there’s a new scene in Bristol called Brashville. It’s Nashville soul with a whole lot of Bristol attitude!”. The singer is the band’s secret weapon live, having toured with Bristol trip-hop legends Massive Attack, while The Times called her one“ of the finest voices of (her) generation”. In an increasingly homogenous music scene, where performers rely more and more on studio trickery, Phantom Limb’s shows will reaffirm their position as a unique and vitally important band.
