‘I Told Them About The World’ is the debut album from FirstoftheGiants.
It opens with ‘Welcome to Our World’, a two-minute non-vocal demonstration of the styles and rhythms that the band can create. This may be a little risky for an opener considering this is meant to be the point you put your best effort in to grab the attention of a listener and show them your finest points; it may have suited the closer a bit better. Having said that the following track, ‘All Your Fault’ is the real introductory number and superbly reveals the personalities behind the music. “Sit down shut up” is the sort of chorus you beg for and can easily chant along with; this is not the only one as the album holds many more.
The remainder of the songs all have large indie rock sounds, with crashing melodies and guitar riffs. ‘One Spare Piece’ is gentle to an extent and comparison to the previous tracks while ‘Just 17’ is rougher around the edges and ‘Johnny Moronic’ has something different; a poppy jumpy beat makes it a little livelier. Although ‘The Elephant In The Room’ is a short number, it has some very good guitars and another catchy chorus. From a short number to a very long one, ‘The Bully And The Thief’ can at times feel like it goes on for ages, however the track in itself is enjoyable with guitar riffs strong on all accounts.
The closer, the albums title track is the most ambitious song though. It has pounding drums, electric guitar riffs to knock you for six and a revolutionary atmosphere. For a first attempt FirstoftheGiants have succeeded in gasping our attention, so lets see what the future holds for this Brit quartet.
