Alex James and Ken Livingstone will be amongst the 135 judges evaluating entries for the 28th Sony Radio Academy Awards. The Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday 7 April with the winners of these highly prestigious Sony bronze, silver and golds revealed at a gala ceremony on Monday 10 May at London’s Grosvenor House. Sony Gold Winner, Chris Evans, will return to the stage to host the Awards.
Organisers are delighted to report that over 1200 entries were received for the 35 Awards, which honour the very best in UK radio. This year a record number of judges have agreed to take part and between them, judge over 1000 hours of radio. The judges represent a broad cross-section of backgrounds be they presenters, journalists, producers or broadcasting professionals, but all united in their support for radio. This year, 48% of the judges are making their Sonys’ debut, including Blur bassist, Alex James, former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, comedian Natalie Haynes, playwright, Bonnie Greer, and Kevin Maguire, associate editor of the Daily Mirror.
Entries are now open for The Sony DAB ‘Rising Star’ Award designed to recognise and encourage new talent in the radio industry as voted for by the public. This Award is part of Sonys’ ongoing commitment to the radio industry – its 28 year sponsorship of the Sonys is the longest commercial partnership between an event and brand.
