Carly Simon has, after 38 years, given the strongest hint yet as to the identity of the man ‘You’re So Vain’ was actually written about.
In an interview with Uncut magazine, Carly Simon says:
“You know what, I’m just going to tell you this. The answer is on the new version of ‘You’re So Vain’, on my new record ‘Never Been Gone’. There’s a little whisper – and it’s the answer to the puzzle.”
For 38 years speculation has been rife. Was it Cat Stevens, Kris Kristofferson, Mick Jagger or the constant favourite, Warren Beatty? Could it have been someone else entirely?
Released on Monday 1 March 2010, Carly Simon’s new album ‘Never Been Gone’ re-imagines the ‘Best Of’ format. ‘Never Been Gone’ features 10 brand new recordings of some of her best known songs, including the 1972 hit ‘You’re So Vain’, and two brand new songs.
A portion of the proceeds from ‘Never Been Gone’ will go to the Carly Simon Music Therapy Initiative, the collaboration between Carly Simon and Berklee College of Music that brings the healing power of music into the community at large.
