Having already announced its first acts (The Prodigy, Kasabian, PiL, The Specials, Ian Brown and Dizzee Rascal), FIB Heineken 2010 continues to proudly turn out a delicious line-up with the additions of Vampire Weekend, Klaxons, Leftfield, and The Courteeners amongst many others.
New York’s quartet, Vampire Weekend, released their debut album in 2008, bursting into the music world in a melodic frenzy and unique spirit. The start of 2010 saw the release of their new album, Contra, which continues to prick up music-loving ears across the world.
Since 2007, Klaxons have kicked up an electro-pop storm with throbbing bass and contagious rhythms in album ‘Myths of the Near Future’ (2007) and hits like ‘Gravity Rainbow’ and ‘Golden Skanks’.
Paul Daley and Neil Barnes formed Leftfield in the London of the end of the 80’s – particularly known for their single ‘Open Up’, with John Lydon singing, which had half of Europe dancing. Shortly after, their first album ‘Leftism’ (1995) was published and less than a month ago, Neil Barnes announced his return after ten years.
Manchester’s quartet, The Courteeners, Morrissey’s personal favourites, made their debut in 2008 with ‘St. Judy’. Their second album ‘Falcon’ (2010) is confirmed for release in the upcoming days, leaving fans on their edges of their seat.
Calvin Harris’ last album ‘Ready for the Weekend’ (2009) is a declaration of intentions: make everyone dance. 100% danceable pop from Scotland. This young wonder has already worked with Groove Armada, Kylie Minogue and Dizzee Rascal among others.
Australian Cut Copy are pioneers on the hugely fashionable danceable rock scene that is breaking out across the world. 2004 was the year of their debut with ‘Bright Like Neon Love’ but their last album ‘In Ghost Colours’ (2008) is what has truly launched them to the front line.
The French musician, producer and DJ Pierre-Alexandre Busson, aka Yuksek, launched his first album ‘Away from the Sea’ at the beginning of 2009 automatically becoming the new French clubpop sensation.
Magnetic Man, Skream and Benga are the spinal chord of London’s avant-garde electronic movement. Magnetic Man will present live with Skream and Benga’s support and DJ session.
Lastly in the new confirmations are national heroes, Los Ilegales, heading the first confirmations of the Spanish bands, followed by Triángulo de amor Bizarro, Jonston and Southern Arts Society.
The techno-punks from Braintree, The Prodigy, are living a second moment of glory thanks to ‘Invaders Must Die’ (2009) with Howlett leading the beats and Flint agitating masses.
In addition we have the renowned Kasabian returning to the Festival vouched by the success of their third album, ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’ (2009). Leicester’s quartet produces their sound from a unique combination of songs and rhythms inherited from the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, a few psychedelic drops and syncopated bass.
After finishing up with Sex Pistols, John Lydon gave way to Public Image Ltd., also known as PiL. They published a classic after-punk album of reference: ‘Metal Box’ (1979), which gave rock a new perspective. Towards the end of 2009, John Lydon announced the band would reunite to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Metal Box’.
Following the draft left by punk and thanks to The Clash’s flirts with Jamaican rhythms – basically reggae and dub – Great Britain saw, towards the end of the 70’s, the manifestation of bands that redefined ska and rocksteady’s rhythms and looks. The Specials were, along with Madness, the most important band in charge of that ‘skatalítica’ fresh breeze.
The rapper Dizzee Rascal has also confirmed his attendance. ‘Tongue N Cheek’ (2009), his last album has turned to Pop thanks, among other things, to songs like ‘Dance Wiv Me’, produced by Calvin Harris.
‘My Way’ (2009) continues to improve the expectations raised by ‘Solarized’ (2004) and ‘The World is Yours’ (2007) from the ex Stone Roses singer, Ian Brown. Brown’s sound resonates between Rihanna’s previously recorded ‘Stillify’ and Zager & Evans’ version of ‘In the Year 2525’, somewhere between classic Pop sound and exuberant R’n’B.
Vince Power {FIB Heineken Promoter} said;
“After the huge success of 2009’s sold out festival, I’m looking forward to having the same success this year.”
A phenomenal 50,000 people per day enjoyed FIB Heineken 2009 in the gorgeous summer sun, making it one of the most popular festivals of the summer with some of the most exciting, exclusive gigs to have graced the Spanish mainland, and it isn’t hard to see why when previous line-ups include internationally acclaimed artists such as: The Killers, Kings of Leon, Leonard Cohen, Oasis, Morrissey, Paul Weller, Babyshambles and Franz Ferdinand.
As the XVI edition of the FIB Heineken continues to confirm some of Pop & Rock music history’s most celebrated pioneers and artists, 2010 promises to be another year of musical excellence set on the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean, delivering a truly unique festival experience.
