Born Ruffians Release Second Album

Toronto’s Born Ruffians are pleased to announce their second album, Say It, due May 31st on Warp Records. If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album Red Yellow and Blue was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, Say It, would be the project they left college to finish — a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, proof that Born Ruffians are in it for the long haul.

Their debut album Red, Yellow & Blue spawned wonderful success, laying foundations from which Say It will leap from, including 3 singles awarded ‘Record of the Week’ at Radio 1, one of which, Hummingbird, was also used for the very prominent Orange ‘balloon’ ad campaign.

Taking two weeks to record the album, the band found itself teaming up again with producer Rusty Santos (who previously worked with Animal Collective, Panda Bear and more recently, Owen Pallett). The Ruffians and co. holed themselves up at Mississauga’s Metalworks studio and loosened the reins on their ambitions, experimenting with Minimoogs and saxophones before eventually scaling much of it back in the mixing process.

The result is a sorority album further amplifying the band’s unique voice and sound, a progression that sees the colour, energy and youthfulness presented in Red, Yellow & Blue channeled into songs stamped with their inimitable fun style, an album that will take them as far as Born Ruffians want to go. And they will go far, kicking off with be a tour of the US including a trio of shows at SXSW & some forthcoming UK dates to be announced.
