Delphic, The Fall and The Blackout Confirmed For Liverpool Sound City

Liverpool Sound City has announced three more exciting acts to play at this year’s music festival. Post-punk legends, The Fall will be joined at Liverpool Sound City by their fellow Mancunians, Delphic whose debut top ten album is already being heralded as “the first great album of 2010” by the BBC. Also confirmed is Welsh post-hardcore band, The Blackout. All these bands join critically acclaimed female vocalist Paloma Faith, Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle and The Maccabees in playing the hotly anticipated Liverpool based festival.

Formed in 1976, The Fall, led by the irrepressible Mark E. Smith, headline O2 Academy2 on Wednesday 19th May. Cited by DJ John Peel as his favourite ever band, 2010 will see the band release their 28th studio album ‘Your Future, Our Clutter’ on Domino Records, home of the Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand, as they continue to be one of the most influential and least compromising bands around. As part of Liverpool Sound City, The Fall will headline the musical celebration event that follows The John Peel World Cup which sees 18 music industry football teams fighting out for the chance to be claimed winners for 2010. Past teams have included The Zutons, The Wombats, MTV, Cream and BBC 6 Music. Details on how to take part in this competition will follow over the coming weeks.

Liverpool’s coolest night, Evol will be presenting Delphic at the O2 Academy on Wednesday 19th May. The band rose to fame throughout 2009, after signing to Polydor and making a succession of acclaimed festival appearances. Their debut album ‘Acolyte’, was described as being “on kissing terms with magnificence” by The Independent and this show follows their last visit to Liverpool which witnessed a stunning sell out gig at the Kazimier. Support comes from BBC Sound of 2010 shortlisted, Everything Everything and hotly tipped Mancunians Egyptian Hip Hop.

The Blackout, who play The Masque Theatre on Friday 21st May, released their second album The Best In Town in 2009 on the legendary Epitaph label following their breakthrough year in 2008, which saw them sell out the London Astoria while still an unsigned band. Support for this 14+ show comes from current Kerrang! Magazine cover stars, My Passion and winners of Kerrang! Magazine’s 2009 Best New Band poll, Young Guns.
