Gaggle – I Hear Flies

Gaggle – the 20 strong all female choir – release their debut single “I Hear Flies” on March 8th through Transgressive Records. Led by Deborah Coughlin, the girls unleash chaotic chants of “I'm a Drunk” over dark, dubby beats. Backed by the equally arresting “I Like Cigarettes”, GAGGLE have brought us the first truly original single of 2010.

Gaggle is a response to boring man bands, bad burlesque and an alternative place for women in music that doesn't involve drinking yourself to death out of boredom or anxiety. Coughlin – a classically trained musician – has brought her expertise to the fore by creating a collective with strikingly alternative and refreshing choral arrangements.

People bang on about being unique and different, but very few actually make big bold creative moves. Gaggle is bold, big and scary – it's not generic. If you want something clever and quality, you get smart creative people in – and the collective ability of Gaggle is much greater than any other band: they are big achievers, ladies of way above average smartness and there are lots of them. As a collective, they are a force to be reckoned with musically, sexually and creatively.

With all 20 members adorned in Technicolor capes, Gaggle are quite simply unique. Each member brings their voice and attitude with Coughlin weaving them into the group, building their sound and expanding it with every song. In Coughlin's own words, “Everything about Gaggle is complex, the music is just one part of it, Gaggle could become anything – an internet dating site, frock shop or socio-political movement”.

Once you have witnessed Gaggle's powerful stage show, you'll begin to comprehend the creative aura surrounding the group. Coughlin adds, “More voices is more freedom – every girl has her own vocal super powers — it's not like they are relying on some amp, or nord to get their own special sound – they got it in their mouths & we can back it up with any kind of backing track we like – or go acapella.”

Having already courted fans at Radio 1 (which led to them recording a Maida Vale Session last year) and NME (who put them in their “Future 50” list), last summer saw Gaggle play their first festivals including Latitude and Transmusicales.
