We The Kings - Smile Kid
Album Review

We The Kings – Smile Kid

‘Smile Kid’ is a command you cannot ignore. Florida four-piece We The Kings’s second album leaps into action with ‘She Takes Me High’, an irresistably uplifing track with a gentle chorus that builds to an impossibly catchy chorus. It sets the bar high for the rest of the record – yet still, We The Kings manage to surpass all expectations with these twelve euphoric tracks.

Here is a band who believe in love, the future, and themselves. The positivity of the lyrics spills out into their sound, which is more diverse than you might imagine; ‘Promise The Stars’ has a country twang to it, while ‘Heaven Can Wait’ (the first single to be taken from the album) has a subtle 80s pulse behind it. There’s room for a ballad, too, featuring Disney queen Demi Levato- ‘We’ll be a Dream’ epitomises the band’s clean-cut romantic notions. Even the cheekily titled ‘In-N-Out (Animal Style)’ is actually a family-friendly and sensitive portrait of life after heartbreak.

Inclusion of anthemic single ‘Check Yes Juliet’ (taken from their first album) as a bonus track ends the album as impressively as it starts. Get ready for the feel-good album of the year! Already hugely successful in their homeland, the new Kings of pop-rock look set to storm the UK, and put a smile on the face of every kid in possession of a coveted ticket to see them support YouMeAtSix this month.
