With all the excitement of the Reading and Leeds Festival announcements last night and the up coming 4 day weekend I am still firmly stuck in Summer mode… I just wish the weather would catch up with me! Although, the Glasswerk office heating seems to be permanently stuck to Barbados level or something at the moment, it’s sweltering.
So, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink 182 are set to headline the August bank holiday extravaganza that is Reading and Leeds. With special mention to the re-formed Libertines making an appearance too. I have to admit I am super excited about the line up announcement, especially with Weezer being there! I can’t wait.
Guns ‘n’ Roses headlined my first ever trip to Leeds Fest and it’s definitely something I won’t be forgetting in a hurry. KFC for miles around Temple Newsam sold out of bargain buckets for days due to many a drunken reveller wanting to wear one to emulate Brian Patrick “Buckethead” Carroll, who was performing with the band at the time.
This was the same year it was decided that, due to the riots and violence, the festival had to be moved to Braham Park. To be honest, I was safely asleep in the car on the way home by the time that all kicked off (that’s how rock ‘n’ roll I am!)
I’ve had some pretty memorable Leeds experiences since then, but they’re not really anything I’m quite prepared to share with you here or anything to do with the bands that were performing… except for this one time.
Anyway, yeah, I’m hoping for something pretty special from the headliners this year. So, let’s hope Axl doesn’t get too big for his already humongous boots and throw a strop before they’re due to hit the stage or something!
To continue with the festival chat there are interviews with British Sea Power and Jeffery Lewis about the upcoming Hinterland Festival and there’s a chance to win weekend passes to the Superfly Festival in Leicester. On top of this The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster are back and on the road, as are the magnificent Devil Sold His Soul. Get out there and see them!
