John Butler Trio – Glasgow

Ad-hoc lyrics about deep fried toast, didgeridoo playing and the dedication of the final song to your ass…just your average John Butler Trio gig really!

The Aussie trio served up a jam packed assortment of old favourites clustered with impressive new tracks from recent album April Uprising. Bass and drum solos mid-set showcased the talent within the band but Butler alone on incredible instrumental Ocean, was a particular highlight raising goosebumps amongst the captivated crowd.

Close To You and Don’t Wanna See Your Face were stand out new tracks but fan favourites like Better Than and Zebra really got the crowd fired up. Peaches and Cream was the obvious choice for the encore, initiating a mass crowd participation moment with the entire spotlight lit Academy singing back the poignant lyrics ‘All I know is, I love you’ to a clearly delighted Butler, with Funky Tonight completing the set.

There’s no denying the outstanding talent surging out of the band but it’s their rapport with the audience and passion for what they do that really makes for an excellent gig, truly brilliant!
