Jack Johnson – You And Your Heart

On May 24th Jack Johnson releases the glorious lead single ‘You And Your Heart’ from his forthcoming record ‘To The Sea’, due out May 31st.

The album highlight was recorded at the Mango Tree Studio on Jack’s home turf of Hawaii. It is one of ‘To The Sea’s 12 tracks, which were all penned and produced by Jack, with Grammy winning Robert Carranza working on production.

Having cited punk bands like Fugazi and Minor Threat as early inspirations, Jack decided to take a rockier turn with his new material, commenting: “I got fed up saying that I liked those bands. I thought it was time to show it in my music a little bit.”

The almost grungy opening chords of ‘You And Your Heart’ as well as his seamless transition to the electric guitar seem evident of this subtle change in direction.

Jack’s full-bodied and yet innately laid-back vocal remains on top form and the buzzing guitar melodies are interspersed with stripped back moments on the piano.

His affinity with surfing and the sea can still be felt within every sun-kissed note, ensuring that it will sit well alongside Jack’s previous work in a live setting.
