The Divine Comedy – At The Indie Disco

Sketching a scenario familiar to anyone who’s ever donned their DMs and taken themselves out for a night of wonderful gloom at their local Indie Disco, The Divine Comedy’s newest single is a heady blast of nightclub nostalgia.

Singing the merits of a dancefloor playlist stacked with Blur, New Order and the Cure, Neil Hannon wryly observes the grubby romance of a night on the cider splattered club tiles. From drinking “under the poster of Morrissey” on your regular table to hitting the floor for ‘Tainted Love’ and riding the chilly nightbus home, head swimming with visions of your crush, it lovingly tells the tale of evenings practically all of us have had.

Building from an almost acoustic strumalong into a chorus laced with sweeping, sumptuous strings and ethereal guest vocals from Cathy Davey, this is one record that you definitely wouldn’t hang the DJ for playing.

Released on May 23rd on Divine Comedy Records, ‘At The Indie Disco’ will be followed a week later on May 31st by the Divine Comedy’s tenth studio album, ‘Bang Goes the Knighthood’.

The Divine Comedy (in the guise of Neil Hannon) will be playing a number of UK shows this summer:

6th May – Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Belfast
11th May – Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh
14th May – The Tabernacle, London (sold out)
17th July – Somerset House, London
