So you’ve seen it on TV or are one of the 840,000 – and counting –who’s watched it on YouTube; either way, it’s clear that the new John Lewis ‘lifecycle’ ad has been one of this year’s biggest water-cooler moments.
Sound-tracked by Fyfe Dangerfield’s heartbreaking rendition of Billy Joel’s 1977 single ‘She’s Always A Woman’, the bittersweet song has plugged into the mood of the nation.
Currently at number 7 in the midweek chart and added to the Radio 2, Heart and Absolute playlists, ‘She’s Always A Woman’ has been playlisted by over 200 further independent local radio stations in the past week. The track’s also been the most tagged song in the UK on Shazam, with people across the country trying to find out just who’s been singing the song that’s been making them sniffle on their sofas while watching the box…
Guillemots’ frontman Fyfe released his acclaimed solo debut ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ earlier this year, featuring the graceful ‘Faster Than The Setting Sun’ which Radio 2 A-listed and which also reached a high of 25 on the UK airplay chart. Fyfe recently played highlights from the album at two stand-out Bloomsbury Theatre shows, one of which was attended by Sir Paul McCartney.
Thanks to unprecedented demand due to ‘She’s Always A Woman’’s inclusion on the John Lewis advert, Fyfe has decided to reissue ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ with 4 new bonus tracks. It’s available now digitally and a new physical version of the album will be released on May 17th on Geffen Records UK.
