Thursday 1st July sees the return of War Child’s annual ARMY OF YOU London showcase, bringing together some of the most exciting names across the UK’s thriving new music scene, this year at Cargo, Shoreditch.
Previous sell out ARMY OF YOU gigs have brought performances from artists including The Noisettes, Friendly Fires, We Have Band and The Rumble Strips. Building on War Child’s heritage of working with the most exciting up and coming new acts, this year’s headliners will be Mercury nominated The Invisible, with additional live performances from O.Children and becoming Real.
These hot live acts will be supported in the main live space at Cargo by special DJ sets from Friendly Fires, Disco 3000 (aka Erol Alkan) and Casper C, as well as acoustic sets in the courtyard from Beans on Toast and Cheatahs.
A second room of live acts and DJing will be hosted by Deadly Rhythm Soundsystem, including special guests Oneman, Solo and Mumdance.
ARMY OF YOU aims to raise awareness and funds for War Child, an international charity working with children in the world’s most dangerous war zones – Iraq, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
War Child works with children who are hit hardest by war and its consequences including child soldiers, street children and children in prison.

ARMY OF YOU is in keeping with War Child’s ongoing use of music and live events as a means of campaigning in the UK. War Child has a unique and proud history with music dating back to the legendary debut album ‘Help!’ released in 1995. Since then War Child has produced an award-winning catalogue of albums, brought some of music’s greats together on stage including Pavarotti, U2 and Brian Eno (1995), Pet Shop Boys, Keane and Lily Allen (2007), Coldplay and The Killers (2009), Kasabian, La Roux and Calvin Harris (2010) and continued to work with and champion the UK’s hottest new bands and DJ’s.
THE LINE-UP
The Invisible's amazing debut record was nominated for the Mercury Prize last year and, quite simply, they are one of the best live bands on the planet right now. A golden voiced soul singer, who also happens to be a phenomenally gifted guitarist is backed by a rhythm section straight out of the underground New York scene circa 1982. The new stuff we've heard sounds even more monumental, too.
The capital's premier gloom merchants, O.Children have all the brooding (yet stylish) intensity of Joy Division underpinned with big pop choruses and guitar hooks. They'll be massive this time next year.
Becoming Real – a new, young shining light in the world of bass driven, live electronica. Beautiful melodies and bleeps over pulsating drums. As fascinating to watch as it is to dance
Disco 3000 – You know all about this one, right? One of the biggest and most important DJs in the world digs out the depths of his record boxes and spreads his love of all things disco, proto-house and anything else with massive live drum breaks. We love you Mr. A
Friendly Fires – We're very happy about this one since the lads played for us at the very first Army Of You. Since then, they've taken over the world with their hugely infectious style of post-indie-post-punk-pop. As is to be expected, they also have amazing record collections but, unlike most bands, they know exactly how to work a dancefloor when in the DJ booth. And yet even more girls are left swooning.
Casper C – The wizard behind the curtain of the vital Bloggers Delight club, Casper is also an international jetsetting/tastemaking DJ in his own right. Electronic music from all genres to make your head spin.
Oneman has almost single handly re-invented old school garage – taking the art of djing to a new level – recontextualising 2 step garage into dubstep, grime, 'wonky' and beyond. He is still the only artist ever to appear on Mary Anne Hobb 's BBC Radio 1 show without releasing a single record
Solo is the latest addition to Fabric's enviable list of resident DJs, Solo is one of the most talented DJs in the country. He spearheaded (and named) the new sensation of 'midget house' (somewhere between minimal and fidget) and his remixes continue to set blogosphere alight.
Mumdance – we turn away for a second and suddenly our good friend Jack is now Diplo's favourite, has released a track with Brodinski and continues to smash it as a DJ all over the world. Good on the lad!
Deadly Rhythm Soundsystem We're really happy to have these guys host our second room for us. They're club night remains one of the most important in the capital. Just recently, they have booked the likes of kode9, Joy Orbison, Appleblim, Joker, Dam Funk… They are also wicked DJs themselves.
Beans On Toast – The inimitable Mr.Toast returns this summer with a full band of merry man. We're told to expect up to 8 of them. Folk music with its tongue firmly in cheek, this will sound perfect in the sun
Cheatahs – Punk rock with an acoustic guitar is the order of the day here. Young & Lost loved him so much they released a single on their ace label and it sold out straight away.
