Owl City Announce November Tour

Fans up and down the country who missed out on tickets to Owl City’s recent sell out Shepherd’s Bush show will be pleased to hear that he has announced a string of UK dates for November. Full tour dates are below – tickets go on sale on the 4th June through link>

Adam Young, who has spent the last 9 months touring the world, is looking forward to spending most of the summer in peaceful hibernation where he can finally concentrate on writing the next Owl City album, which is due for release this December. When he emerges in August he will hit the road with Maroon 5 and John Mayer before embarking on yet another worldwide headline tour. Tokyo Police Club and Unwed Sailor will support Owl City on the European leg of his tour.

It has been a fantastic year so far for Owl City. His swift rise from the unknown into chart topping success saw his debut single ‘Fireflies’ top the charts in 22 countries, including the UK where it spent 3 weeks at the No.1 spot and is currently certified gold. It has sold 6 million copies globally. His debut album ‘Ocean Eyes’ is also currently certified gold and has sold 1.5 million copies globally. The UK has quite clearly joined the rest of the world in tumbling head over heels for Owl City.

Adam – who has recently recorded vocals for Armin Van Buuren’s new album – isn’t taking a second of his staggering rise to fame for granted, he says, “I find myself awestruck every time we tour internationally. The ability for music to transcend distance, culture and language leaves me speechless. It is such an incredible honor to have people singing my lyrics across the globe. Not a day passes where I don't find myself amazed.”

It’s hard to imagine how much better things could get for Adam right now. When the shy 23-year-old first uploaded a few synth-pop songs on to his MySpace profile in 2007, his Owl City project was just one of thousands of unknown acts in the web’s worldwide hive of musical activity and he confesses that the thought of playing live used to give him ‘white knuckles’. Two-and-a-half years and over 95 million MySpace plays later, Young is confidently playing sold-out shows to a crowd who, as The NME observed, ‘impressively, know every single word to every single song’ and that ‘squeals and shrieks with the kind of delight usually reserved for buffed-up boy bands’. The shy boy’s dreamy DIY imaginings have become a bonafide pop phenomenon.

But even a cursory listen to the gorgeous synthetic gems on ‘Ocean Eyes’ reveals why Owl City has struck such a universal chord. Young has fashioned an elegant and seemingly effortless connection between fashionably arty, retro-nouveau electro-pop and fresh-faced, sweetly melancholic hit factory song writing. Owl City pop has a purity of purpose – an innocence – that breathes fresh air into the electro-pop revival.

“I can't believe how fast things have taken off,” Young marvels. “It seems like it was only yesterday I put a few songs from my first EP online and watched things begin to happen on their own. I never thought music could spread like mine did through the internet. I do know one thing though: I just wanted to keep creating. It's a lot of fun and it's the only thing in the world I'm good at.
