In a small, intimate, and smelly venue, crammed with excited fans surprised at being able to get their tickets from general sale and a more than yellow theme to this gig, it was an evening of ‘party’ and sheer crazy.
The supports were good, but barely worth the mention, and looking at the crowd they all seemed to respond to Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier earlier message to come ‘with anything resembling a banana’ there were inflatable ones, soft toy ones and even a boy with bananas taped to all of his fingers. Mad.
As for the actual music, every Andrew WK song sounds the same, but I have never been to a gig like it, and I’ve been to some gigs that have left me speechless. Andrew entered the stage, and kept repeating the fact that ‘this is not a concert, this is a party’ and it eventually turned out that way. From a crowd surfer hanging upside down on the trapezes on the venue ceiling, to eventually almost half the crowd being on stage, singing his songs, playing his piano and well stripping, it was a mess, it was electric but it was awesome!
A sweaty venue with the promoter and club owner looking shocked, he played a disappointing 6 song set, but for the price, and the fact that there were only 275 people there, it not being one of his new found lectures on being a beautiful person or living life to the full, one did come out of the gig thinking that he was a gift. It was exciting, it was emotional, but most importantly, it was an epic party.
