On a sleepy Wednesday evening, in North London, a excitable crowd stood waiting to witness the London date of Japandroids immense Post Nothing tour, featuring well over 150+ dates.
The support came from the eagerly talked about Yuck, who played an enlightening set, of which left sustenance throughout the night, and made note to see them again. Yuck, a great live show, for a band so early in their musical careers. Very much like Sonic Youth, a definite one to keep an eye on.
Then the headliners, Japandroids, with their pop-punk-garage outfit, taking the stage with almost as much excitement of the audience. They looked as pleased to be here as the fans, with massive grins on their faces. They then settled in to playing through the entire album, starting with ‘The Boys Are Leaving Town’, smashing into ‘Young Hearts Speak Fire’, which really got the crowd going. The room lad ended with eager 20 somethings, jumping around in ecstasy, sharing the moment together in one big heap. The duos energy only grew as there set went on, remarkable for a band that has played so many dates recently. Playing crowd favourites, ‘Rockers East Vancouver’ and ‘Crazy/Forever’ and finishing with their famous electric cover of McLucsky’s ‘To Hell With Good Intentions’.
Overall the night brought a good set, with a great crowd atmosphere and good energy, nothing bad about that is there?
