Seth Lakeman is set to release a new single, ‘Tiny World’, from his critically acclaimed forthcoming album ‘Hearts & Minds’ on 12th July.
Described as ‘a creative breakthrough’ by Uncut magazine, ‘Hearts & Minds’ (album released on Virgin) is now to be released on the 19th July and represents a further leap forward in both song writing and sonics from 2008’s top ten album ‘Poor Man’s Heaven’, while still bearing the hall-marks of a classic Lakeman album – encompassing traditional and modern themes of love, loss and human struggle.
Perfectly complimenting the rabblerousing anthems such as the album’s eponymous song ‘Hearts & Minds’, the love songs on Seth’s fifth album sparkle and shine with real joy. New single ‘Tiny World’ (released July 12th) is one such example, a gloriously life-affirming summer radio hit in waiting, led by a spiralling fiddle melody and an irresistible sing-along chorus.
Produced by Tchad Blacke (The Black Keys, Elvis Costello) and Richard Evans and mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan – the man who mixed Mumford & Sons’ ‘Sigh No More’- ‘Tiny World’ is one of the Seth’s most personal songs to date. With a lyrical theme that is more mature, warm and intimate, ‘Tiny World’ sees Lakeman’s continued development as a songwriter of real quality and versatility.
Having first come to wider public attention following his Mercury nominated Kitty Jay album in 2005, when Seth brought folk music to a new, younger audience, he has been widely credited with breaking down perceptions and barriers often associated with folk music with compelling albums and dynamic live performances. With ‘Hearts & Minds’ he returns into a musical landscape he arguably helped to shape, that now encompasses a new breed of folk inspired / acoustic artists, including the likes of Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling. Lakeman’s Hearts & Minds album, provides an exciting addition to that landscape, with contemporary themed tracks rubbing shoulders with more traditional tales and furious fiddle playing and stomping rhythms complimented by intricate acoustic songs.
