Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love
Album Review

Florence and the Machine – Cosmic Love

This single released by Florence Welch the wonderful lady behind Florence and the Machine; takes us to unknown places and unseen boundaries as we fly through space and through her mind. ‘Cosmic Love’, the last single taken from her hugely successful first album, ‘Lungs’ is Florence’s favourite off the album with her refusing to sign to ‘Island Records’ unless this single was released!
The song starts very softly with only finger tips on the keyboard and synthesized beats in the background. Simultaneously Florence’s voice comes in; also very soft and light but with her very distinctive vocals.
Relating stars with romance of the heart and the moon with shadows and sadness we cannot help but feel very mystified and interested in what she sings about, straight away. The harp adds to the romance and highlights the softer tones in the song and adding Florence’s unique edge. When the drums come in, it adds dramatic effect later fading into heart beats later on in the song.
The song tells us of how she feels she is constantly in a twilight zone, in the shadows, in the dark. She talks about someone leaving her who then, later joins her in the dark and as though she is trying to be positive; we then hear about dawn breaking-a new day-a fresh start. Sadly though, Florence states how in the end, she is always left in the twilight, in the shadow of his heart.
