The Young Veins – Take A Vacation!

Have you been missing the hippies, the hair and the free loving? Then this band while remind you what it was like to have no cares. Were you ever a fan of the Beatles, the Monkeys, Costello? If the answer is yes then the sound of this album contains all those influences and have thrown in a lil Beach Boys to boot.

This is Ryan Ross and Jon Walker’s new project after leaving Panic! At The Disco, after a year of writing together they were later joined by band members Andy Soukal, Nick Murray and Nick White. This album seems to follow on from P!AD’s 2008 album, Pretty Odd, with it’s 50’s/60’s sound. First track, ‘Change’ is testament to this with a very sixties style guitar driving the song along. Ross’ vocals are full of the eras notions which is unusual from someone so young.

The album opener ‘Change’ sends you back through the time travelling vortex immediately and the only way for you to get back to the present is to press the stop button. ‘Maybe I Will, Maybe I Wont’ is hugely evocative of the Beatles sound and the lyrics don’t seem to mean anything, either that or the meaning is so convoluted that it has evaded me. ‘Defiance’ has its roots set in the American pop of the decade.

Overall, this album is suited to those seeking the 50’s/60’s ideals and breeds the bohemian lifestyle.
