SWALEC's new 'plugged in' initiative has secured the services of Welsh icon Huw Stephens to be the judge for their 'Find A DJ' competition, with the winner getting the chance to play at this year's Relentless Wakestock festival.
The radio host will be judging a selection of mixtapes uploaded by entrants from all over Wales, as part of SWALEC's ongoing 'plugged in' campaign, which is designed to offer local people a taste of what it's like to work in the music industry.
Here's what Huw Stephens had to say on his new role judging the 'plugged in' DJ search: “This competition is a rare opportunity for budding DJs and music lovers in Wales to show off their passion and get that all important first step into the wide world of music. It's going to be exciting and dare I say it, eye-opening, to hear some of the entries! I can't wait to get fired into the selection of mixes and see what undiscovered Welsh talent 'plugged in' has unearthed!”
The competition, which is running across Wales in print, broadcast and online media will give the winning DJ the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an opening set at the Relentless stage which Huw is curating this year, as well as and providing the winner with a 'money-can't-buy' launchpad for the DJ career.
As well as the DJ competition, SWALEC will be bringing its innovative 'plugged in experience' to Relentless Wakestock, which will be home to the festival's official signing tent and a unique “recharge” zone for fans to relax away from the general festival madness while topping up their mobiles with specially designed emission-free chargers.
To enter the competition entrants must send a mix of up to 15 minutes to link by Wednesday 30th June.
