It is often these days that a video appears online and grabs attention. Maybe it had had a lengthy countdown (á la all of Gaga's new videos and Christina's new one) or maybe it has a lot of hype or big messages (á la M.I.A).
So it came as a surprise when The Pipette's new video came out, because frankly, it was hard to recognise anyone! With more line-up changes than the Sugababes and only two albums, it has been a bit hard to keep up with this girl band.
How and ever the new line-up, new album and new sound has created a bit of a buzz around their new material and hopefully will set them on the path to greater success.
The new song is called 'Call Me' and is a catchy pop tune full of the signature charming Pipette melodies but set to a retro disco-electro track. The girls look sharp, polished and bold which makes them stand out well.
It's a step away from the fifties girlband era they focused on with their debut and it's hard to say if this new incarnation will garner them the same success they had previously, but it is in keeping with the times and reinvention is key to maintaining success (just ask any of Madonna's one hundred alter egos).
The chorus is loud and sounds like a kaleidescope of instruments and voices which merge into a great riff. The video is showcased in a 3D neon haze set against a black and white treatment. The tune is a grower and the chorus invades your head until you will be bursting into unequivocal melody on the street.
The Pipette's new album 'Earth Vs The Pipettes' is due for release on September 6th
