Lazy Genius Celebrates Its Second Birthday

LAZY GENIUS is an all encompassing beast…. comprising of a club night, promotions company and artist representation it is rooted in a love of live music, and its primary focus is the promotion and facilitation of the best new music in Liverpool.

Run single handed by Tom Johnson, LAZY GENIUS has quietly been bubbling under the surface of the Liverpool music scene for 2 years now, cutting its teeth with prolific shows across a variety of venues, popping up with collaborations and one of shows during the likes of Liverpool Sound City and Liverpool Music Week and working tirelessly to promote bands such as Strawhouses, We Walk In Straight Lines, The Grande and The Fall of Kings.

Friday the 6th of August sees LAZY GENIUS celebrate its 2nd Birthday, at the spiritual home of Liverpool's live music scene, The Zanzibar. Taking over both floors, downstairs plays host to a string of live bands, featuring some of LAZY GENIUS' old friends and new favourites. Headliners The White Labels will provide the straight up, good old indie rock and roll that's so central to where LAZY GENIUS came from, they're a refreshing blast of cheap lager, cigarette smoke, basement bar sweat, heavily cut drugs and expensive aftershave across a staid Liverpool ‘glade plug in’ scene. They're joined on the bill by the unashamedly epic Fall of Kings, with their intense, soaring live sound and tribal drumming. Vasco De Gama and A Death In Brazil represent the garage rock, post punk, thread of LAZY GENIUS' complex quilt with The Moguls and Super Cannes completing the line up with experimental moments, infectious melodies and pulsating walls of sound.

Upstairs is hosted by 'CantMixWontMixShdntMixDontMIx' with much more focus on live electronica and DJs. Live sets from (C)-FuNKK, Speed Pets and Gray Torino with the Chew Disco DJs and X-Ray Cat spinning the accompaniments.

LAZY GENIUS himself, Tom Johnson said…'It's been a fantastic 2 years, with so many memorable gigs and nights, and a few that are a bit of a blur! We've not always got it right, and we're still cutting our teeth, but I'm committed to promoting live music in the right way and ultimately we're on the band's side, which is maybe what stands us apart from other prolific, multi genre promoters. Our 2nd Birthday at The Zanzibar is a celebration of a lot of hard work and good times, a chance to get a load of bands that I love on one stage, and everyone who's been involved with LAZY GENIUS on the dance floor!'
