Durty Promotions

On Friday July 16th, Durty Promotions launched their first night of live music in The Twisted Pepper to an appreciative and delighted audience.

The night was a first for the promotions company keen to give exposure to relatively unknown local artists, providing them with both a quality venue and a public willing to listen to an eclectic mix of styles and genres, for a low cost of course.

Kicking off the night was singer-songwriter Ian Martin, who played both a mix of live material and covers. Martin’s folk-acoustic based style blended well with his use of the loop pedal à la Owen Pallett, while songs such as ‘It’s Been a While’ and ‘So Far from the Summit’ revealed intimate lyrics that Martin successfully managed to deliver despite some on-stage tuning difficulties.

Next up were Brian Canavan and The Difference Engine, who gave an electrifying performance, showcasing both Canavan’s on-stage presence and evident song writing talent. His voice remained strong and clear throughout songs such as ‘Imperfect Lines’, ‘Elephant Island’ and ‘Mexican Sweat’, backed up by the band’s impeccably tight arrangement.

The third and final act was El Hombre Jokes, who brought a collection of funky, blues-inspired songs to the night such as ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ and ‘Suicide Bomber’, which, combined with the band’s live-jam feel and friendly audience interaction, ended the night on a high.

Durty Promotions gigs run on the third Friday of every month in The Twisted Pepper, Middle Abbey St.
