Dance To The Radio Returns To Leeds Festival

We are very proud to announce the return of the DANCE TO THE RADIO STAGE which acts as the official warm up for the crowds at Leeds on the Thursday night. from 7pm until 11pm.

This year the five bands who will be playing are Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Bear In Heaven, Chickenhawk, Spectrals and The Neat along with Dance To The Radio DJs.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
Sam Duckworth is Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., the Southend-born troubadour who named his solo project after a solution from an old Batman adventure game, surfed the enigma of it to the Top Thirty with his home-made 2006 debut album ‘The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager’ (an album written and recorded on a self-discovery tour of the UK). He then hooked in Kate Nash and Billy Bragg to guest on the similarly successful 2008 follow up ‘Searching For The Hows And Whys’ (co- produced with Nitin Sawhney), became a leading figure in the political pop scene (a pub run-in with the BNP prompted Sam to become heavily involved with the Love Music Hate Racism campaign) and helped spark the new wave of modern folk heroes that’s brought us Jamie T and Jack Penate.

Recently completed 3rd Album, ‘Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, will be released on 13th September through Cooking Vinyl.
Alongside co-producer Dean James, Sam built tracks around the basic acoustic melodies, and added reams of electronic layers that saw the tunes spiral off in ever more elaborate and exotic directions, inspired by a new love for hip-hop and a rediscovered passion for drum’n’bass.

Bear in Heaven
Bear In Heaven are simply one of the best live bands on the road today.
Album Beast Rest Forth is A celebration of wide open spaces and not-quite-sounding-like-anyone-in-particular, it’s the closest Bear In Heaven have come to cutting a prog rock album, although frontman Jon Philpot insists, “We’re bigger fans of Krautrock. We’re suckers for that continual pulse and things that just hum. You should be able to feel music, not just hear it.”

Chickenhawk
Leeds based Chickenhawk are Paul Astick on guitar and vocals; Rob Stephens on guitar; Ryan Clark on bass and Matt Reid on drums.

In current form, Chickenhawk have been together since 2008, and have unleashed their unique brand of experimental metal with releases on Brew Records and Dance to the Radio and through numerous tours with some of rock’s most exciting acts such as; Pulled Apart by Horses, Cancer Bats, The Fall of Troy, We Are the Ocean, Chrome Hoof and Kong, among others.

Spectrals
Spectrals is the creation of one young lad “L” from the north of England, a place where to not have a baby and a criminal record by the age of 18 is seen as unusual.

After being in various bands playing punk rock in basements, the top rooms of pubs and village halls L decided to start something combining his love of doo wop, girl groups and then adding a little bit of rat pack flair with a punk rock vibe to create Spectrals.

When not getting upset over people talking about his band on the internet, Spectrals has been known to enjoy Red Bird & Cash Money Records, “Slush” based beverages, writing to Phil Spector in prison, and NYHC in the 1980s.

The Neat
The Neat are Mez – bass/vocals, Laurence – guitar, Rich – drums, Nick – guitar/vocals.

They’re young, they’re from hull, they’ve had airwaves with Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne; shows in the big smoke, soon on a delirious little tour of the UK, poking the eye of the industry, with smiles all round.
