Judith Algar and Nick Nicholas make up the enigmatic duo that are The Pictures. Their forthcoming single Killing Time serves as the perfect introduction for listeners new to their acclaimed, etheral synth-pop. Peppered with subtle electronics, the track is winding melancholy with an irresistible 80s flavoured elegy on the 9-5 rat race. It is accompanied by a video directed by award winning Vicki Psarias and featuring actress Zahra Ahmadi (Eastenders, Britz, Bellamy’s People).
The Pictures’ song writing talents were picked up early with dance releases on the China label (Warners), deals with Hit and Run and EMI, and their music has been used internationally including on the cult TV series ‘As If’ and ‘Cold Feet’. Fans of the pictures include Midge Ure, who has co-written with the band, and George Michael who featured their early recordings on his Agean label.
Their forthcoming album, ‘Wake up Dreaming’, sees The Pictures come of age in a blistering collaboration with legendary producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, Ocean Colour Scene, The Twang). Recorded at the Magic Garden studio and Rockfield, ‘Wake up Dreaming’ sees Algar’s shivery vocals caress and rage over Nicholas’s reckless guitars and information age musical landscapes, taking in influences as diverse as Eurythmics, The Velvet Underground and Air.
