GlobalGathering Celebrated Ten Years Of Clubbing

Stratford-Upon-Avon’s Long Marston Airfield once again played host to the UK’s premier electronic dance music festival, when GlobalGathering celebrated 10 years last weekend. In what was an unforgettable and defining year in the event’s history, the incredible line-up pleased long-time GlobalGathering aficionados and newcomers alike.

Taking place in Shakespeare’s country at the height of summer, over 150 of the most exciting DJs in the world took to 16 stages to keep the crowds dancing throughout the two-day festival.

Seminal dance legends Faithless hit the stage on Friday, with support from the legendary Paul Oakenfold and international DJ and producer Sander Kleinenberg who started the weekend as it meant to go on.

Taking charge on the Saturday night was chart topper Dizzee Rascal. The Main Stage’s headliner was supported from a host of both established and fresh new acts including electronic Italian outfit and the next big things, the Bloody Beetroots, Death Crew 77, Sidney Samson, Scratch Perverts, Chuckie, Jaguar Skills and Pete Jordan.

Treating the crowds to a spectacular air show on the Saturday night were the Red Bull Matadors. Demonstrating some of the remarkable stunts that have made them so sought after for events across the world, pilots Steve Jones and Paul Bonhomme entertained the crowds with their daredevil antics.

The festival’s Live Stage featured some storming performances on the Friday for the epic tenth anniversary event, with acts including; Chew Lips, Dirty Vegas, Alex Metric and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool & Drums Of Death hitting the stage.

The Godskitchen Boombox was also back by popular demand. The incredible structure was home to some of the biggest names at this year’s event including Armin Van Buuren, Eric Prydz and Sasha, who kept the crowd dancing on the Friday, whilst Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn, Markus Schulz and Judge Jules were just some of the phenomenal names confirmed for the Saturday.

Festival-goers also enjoyed a host of other phenomenal acts across arenas including; Global, House, Spectrum, Electric, GlobalGathering X10, FWD >> Rinse, Carl Cox The Revolution Continues, Godskitchen Boombox, Polysexual, Hardcore til I die, Bedrock and Random Concept.

Alongside the phenomenal line-ups, world-renowned festival art impresarios, The Do LaB, were brought in for the 10 year event to design both the GlobalGathering VIP area and one of the two outdoor terraces. The Californian production team created two landmark environments, similar in scale to recent showpieces at festivals such as Coachella and Burning Man, for last weekend’s festival. The Do LaB have become the undisputed masters in building interactive environments, combining large-scale installations and cutting-edge lighting design and sprinkled their creative genius over the GlobalGathering site.

This year’s event marked the end of a decade in which GlobalGathering has donated almost £200,000 to charitable and worthwhile causes benefiting the local area, UK and the rest of the World. Projects that have received donations from the festival in past decade include; Cure Lukemia, The Shakespeare Hospice, The Old Fire Station at Tysoe, Joseph Foote Foundations and the Challenger Trust. A number of these and other charities will continue to benefit from this years event.
