Doves Music Festival – 7 Hours Of Non Stop Music

Following another phenomenal weekend of events, the Scarborough Open Air Theatre is back this weekend to play host to seven hours of non-stop music on Saturday 7th August with an incredible line-up at the DOVES SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL. The line up of acts include special guest Newton Faulkner, also announced to join Doves are Futureheads, Detroit Social Club, Tiffany Page, Kassidy at the new 6500 seater Scarborough North Bay venue. With doors opening at 1.00pm, the gig will take on a music festival atmosphere for revellers to enjoy.

Hot boys on the block, Scottish rock band Kassidy will get proceedings underway. The four-piece Vertigo Records signees, who all play guitar and sing, have been making waves with a sound that has been compared to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, drawing their roots from classic Americana.

Described by Q Magazine, as ‘a 23 year old Fender wielding Chrissie Hynde for the Twenty-First Century complete with wild streak a mile wide ’ Tiffany Page is next on stage with her brand of radio friendly route 66 rock n roll, she was recenty single of the week (Walk Away Slow) on Radio 1. Radio 2 love her too – boundary crossing success is surely on the cards! One to watch!

Following Tiffany is North East export Detroit Social Club fresh from their prime spot opening performance at Glastonbury this year, they were last seen on the Yorkshire Coast supporting Oasis at the Bridlington Spa. Think Kasabian, think The Verve, think stadium sized tunes and attitude and you have the sound of DSC!

‘Sunderland’s finest’ The Futureheads also get in on the action with their lively post punk, new wave influenced performances, a hard work ethic has earned them a legion of adoring fans countrywide (and internationally). Having carved out a career for themselves with a string of radio slaying singles, they are in fact, a great British institution in the making. 3 big albums and 7 or so top 40 singles, and continual playlisting at national UK radio means you know their songs.

Then special guest Newton Faulkner takes to the stage armed with songs, great big songs from his No.1 Debut record ‘Handbuilt By Robots’ and his smash hit follow up ‘Rebuilt By Humans’, Newton is a festival favourite the world over. From his breakthrough performances at SxSW in 2006. Newton's known for his exquisite guitar playing and stunning live shows – his cover of Massive Attacks Teardrop is quite simply fantastic.

Doves, then headline the day with a 90 minute set, they come to North Yorkshire to celebrate their new ‘Best of’ collection ‘The Places Between: The Best Of Doves’ which was released on 5th April, it also follows the band’s biggest ever headline show at Manchester Central in December last year, a truly memorable performance at the BBC Electric Proms and last year’s storming appearance headlining the John Peel stage at Glastonbury. Doves are one of the finest musical treasures the British Isles has thrown up for years. Ingrained into the UK’s consciousness with a string of anthemic singles and album tracks, Doves live are a pleasure to behold. Emotionally resonant skyscraping choruses brush shoulders with tenderly touching moments of musical beauty and the idylic setting of Scarboroughs Open Air Theatre, as the evening creeps into nightfall, is surely going to be one of the must see events of the summer. Bring it on!

Doves Summer Music Festival (7th August) presented as part of an impressive programme of opening events at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, including The 80’s Are Back – Bank Holiday Party (Saturday 28th July) and 360 Extreme Sports Festival featuring Madness (17-19 September).
