The 7th Dimension –

As far as cheap thriller go – the 7th Dimension may be a bit ropey on the acting front, but it at the very least has some interesting characters that helps the film build some interest around it’s complex ideas.

But this is a very odd hybrid film that never goes where you expect it to go. In fact it carries along in a fashion that you look at your viewing partner and frown as if to ask “What the hell is this film about?”

This is to say it never really grounds its own feet in anything. It’s very hard to know what kind of film you are watching here – but there is still enough confusion and suspense to make you keep watching. Basically a couple of girls go looking for a bit of a barney with a guy who they suspect is up to no good (and should be out happily dating one of them) only to happen upon a tech set up of geeks and conspiracy enthusiasts. These hackers seem to want to battle out science and religion as through their software they hack into the Vatican.

There is an attempt to make the film seem claustrophobic which to some degrees works, but really what they want is a bigger budget with sets and lighting that are kinder on the eye. But then not many British horror thrillers tend to look too good.

In the pack I got sent in the post today this was probably the most significantly interesting film as at least it had some ideas about it – even if these ideas were rather barmy. But if you don’t mind your horror thrillers very talky then this could be for you.
