The Swellers To Support Young Guns

Michigan based punk rock kings, The Swellers, have announced they will return to the UK this November to support Young Guns on twelve dates of their nationwide tour, including a London show at Camden’s Electric Ballroom on December 3. This follows the band’s triumphant debut UK performances on the Give It A Name Introduces tour this spring, which coincided with the release of their new album, ‘Ups and Downsizing’.

The band, who received a nomination for ‘Best International Newcomer’ at this year’s Kerrang! Awards, were formed in 2002 by brothers Nick and Jonathan Diener (vocals and drums). The Swellers have proved themselves to be a conscientious quartet: they have played on extensive tours across America, including supports with Paramore, Less Than Jake, Four Year Strong and Motion City Soundtrack, along with two stints on the Vans Warped Tour.

Having moulded their sound of hard-edged, yet accessible punk, the band released their first EP ‘Beginning of The End Again’ in the U.S in 2005 and followed with their critically acclaimed first full-length album ‘My Everest’ in 2007. ‘Ups and Downsizing’ released in the UK this year earning the band (whose line-up also includes Ryan Collins and Anto Boros) fantastic reviews. Kerrang! magazine said “Ups and Downsizing is certainly not short of catchy hooks, it’s a record with melancholy heart…” (4K’s), whilst Rock Sound proclaimed “…this is a fist-pumping, lungs bellowing, socially aware juggernaut of an album” (9/10).

The album’s title song and much of the album sees singer, Nick, focus on key social matters affecting the band’s home state of Flint, Michigan before the recession, including dwindling jobs and people moving out of the state – “It’s about ups and downs, taking off and moving somewhere else because you lost your job. Our parents, everyone’s parents, friends, and family in our state have had it rough,” says the singer.

The band played their first ever UK shows at this year’s Give It A Name Introduces tour alongside The Dangerous Summer and Anabour, earning themselves more phenomenal write-up’s.
