In The City Presents The Hive

The organisers behind In The City 2010, the UK's premier new music convention – which takes place in Manchester on Wednesday 13th October – Friday 15th October – have announced details of an exciting new programme of educational events designed for a younger generation of delegates looking for an entry point into the music industry.

Entitled The In The City Hive, this new initiative is aimed at providing a stimulating, informative and thought provoking programme for students, emerging artists and young people (16+), and will run during the main convention at The Malmaision Hotel in Manchester over two days on October 13th and 14th.

The In The City Hive will feature panels, seminars and workshops led by a host of industry professionals and covering a wide range of topics including artist management, music publishing, understanding the media, songwriting & studio production and many others.

The In The City Hive will be a separately ticketed event from the main convention with passes priced at just £60, which includes free entry to all In The City Live events, allowing delegates entry to the dozens of live music gigs happening during the event.

Just some of the events already planned for the inaugural The In The City Hive include:

A number of successful and established artist managers, who will be announced shortly, talk to delegates and share their thoughts about their changing roles and responsibilities.

• My Generation, Next Generation

• Learning How To Sell Yourself: The Art Of Networking

They say it’s not what you know, but who you know. But if you’re just starting out in the business you aren’t going to know anyone. How do you know who to approach and what to approach them about? How do you make your pitch and once you’re in, how do you take it on to the next step? Each evening The In The City Hive will continue at a nearby venue where delegates can enjoy a drink and the chance to network with each other, putting their skills into practice.

Operating under this year’s overall theme, “That that don't kill me can only make me stronger,” In The City provides a vital forum via keynote addresses, celebrity interviews, masterclasses, panels and seminars for music industry professionals to discuss the future of the music business, and also provides the focus for hundreds of live music events that will be taking place during the convention.

In The City Director Yvette Livesey, who developed the original format of the event in partnership with the late Anthony Wilson said, “In The City has always adopted the twin tenets of education and inspiration and we have decided this year to put in a place a bespoke educational programme tailored to the specific needs of young people looking to learn about and get into the music industry. The In The City Hive will bring together a range of respected and successful industry professionals to inspire delegates and give them the tools to start their journey into the industry.”
