Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii and born into a musical family (his father, a Latin percussionist and mother, a talented vocalist) Bruno states why he has an eclectic mix of influences coming from reggae, R&B, folk and rock ‘n’ roll – “Hawaii is basically in the middle of the world, so you’re exposed to every type of music over there.” Highly anticipated debut single, ‘Just The Way You Are’, which is already inside top ten on iTunes in the US, confirms Bruno’s flair for heartfelt lyricism, smooth golden vocals and infectious beats.
Having moved to Los Angeles straight from high school to pursue his musical career, Bruno teamed up with friends Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine to form the highly demanded production/songwriting team, ‘The Smeezingtons’. The trio went onto craft a number of massive hits including Flo Rida’s ‘Right Round’, Brandy’s ‘Long Distance’ and K’NAAN’s international #1 Fifa World Cup song, ‘Wavin’ Flag’. Bruno released his debut EP ‘It’s Better If You Don’t Understand’ in the US this year, it peaked at #1 on the iTunes pop chart. Asked about the themes of the EP, he explains – “It’s hard to put myself in a box… I just write songs that I strongly believe in and that are coming from inside. There are no tricks. It’s honesty with big melodies. And I’m singing the s*** out of them.”
