ELO cellist, Mike Edwards, died instantly this weekend when the van he was driving was crushed by a bale of hay. It had fallen from a tractor on a nearby farm and rolled on to the road in Devon. What a tragic freak accident! The part of the story I find most upsetting though is that he has been identified using photographs and You Tube footage. The police are having trouble finding a relative to formally identify the body. They have found an ex-girlfriend, who is currently abroad and are trying to contact a man who is believed to be his brother.
It made me start thinking; surely someone knew he was out that day? He was obviously on his way somewhere so someone must have known he didn’t arrive, why haven’t they gone to the police? I’d like to think people would notice if I didn’t turn up somewhere. It’s got to be a sad existence when you have no one around you.
Other than that how scary to think that one minute you’re driving along and the next you’re crushed by a 600kg hay bale. It’s scary stuff. It makes me want to start living my life and not just plodding along. So, as Glasswerk readers as my witness I’m not going to waste anymore time. I’m going to do things that make me happy on a daily basis and not waste my time on those things or people that don’t!
The first thing that makes me happy is the brilliant stuff we have on the website this week… interviews with Plain White T’s, Amanda Abizaid and David Guetta, new videos from Pendulum, Train, Canterbury and the amazing Imelda May, plus competitions to win a limited edition We Are Scientists t-shirt and Rolling Stones stamps. As if all this wasn’t enough The Brute Chorus, Ricky Warwick, The Strange Death Of Liberal England and Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster are all on tour!
