In addition to this they will be releasing Hidden Remixes a 10” on October 25th. This will include previous remixes from the likes of Sbtrkt and SALEM, as well as some new remixes.
The Barbican is the first of three very special shows through to the end of the year (see full dates below). For this, their last London date for some time, TNP will be supported by Darkstar. Recently described by Guardian online “ this trio make music for the early hours after the devastating night before – and their dark, drained sound could be a contender for next year's Mercury prize”, their debut album ‘North’ is due for release in October on the highly acclaimed dubstep label Hyperdub.
These New Puritans second album, Hidden is an extraordinary record that takes influence from the brutal hip-hop of the Wu Tang Clan, the melancholy of Benjamin Britten, the crashing rhythms of Jamaican dancehall, and the multi-layered textures of Steve Reich.
At various points the record features a 15-piece brass and woodwind ensemble; multiple prepared pianos, 6’ Japanese Taiko drums, and the use of Foley techniques to mimic the sounds of heads being crushed and swords being drawn. At a series of exclusive dates in October, November and December, These New Puritans present Hidden Live, the only chance to hear this music as it was originally recorded, accompanied by the full ensemble of brass, woodwind and giant drums; the orchestra will be conducted by André de Ridder (Gorillaz, Monkey). Following on from the debut performance at London’s Barbican in October there will follow shows at the Crossing Border Festival, Den Hague and the Pompidou Centre, Paris.
