White Sunday – Nothing Without The Music

It’s hard trying to write music for the common people these days. Get it wrong and a band sounds imitating and fabricated, get it right and it’s the door-opener to a world full of superstardom and fame. The problem is it’s extremely difficult to ‘make it big’ these days, however Reading four-piece White Sunday have so emphatically made it their mission to hear not only their voices through a colossal PA system on a wide expanse of a stage, but to hear thousands of music lovers shrieking their lyrics back to them with a crazed sense of moral abandonment.

Their new single ‘Nothing Without The Music’ starts with the big opening tense moment you would expect until the memorable guitar line totally brings you into the feel of this great rock n roll track. They know how to write massive songs and how a massive song should move. Although it follows a strict verse-chorus-bridge it somehow feels less commercialized then it should be.

The production and the way this song is engineered still sounds live even though parts have obviously been tinkered with. The middle-eight rings of a dynamical prelude to the monumental ending chorus which will have anybody with a penchant for pencil jumping at gigs feel like they are jumping off a diving board into the depths of feel good rock n roll only to emerge gasping for more and more. It’s easy to like this and it’s easy to sing along to. Also it’s very easy to see that if White Sunday stick by their guns and stay true to their roots they should be one of those lucky bands that ‘make it big’.
