You’ve never heard anything quite like Mohombi. 23-year-old singer, writer and producer with half Scandinavian, half African heritage, Mohombi delivers a fresh, irresistible party sound he calls Afro-Viking. A sound that reflects his story.
Born to a Swedish mother and a Congolese King-cum-politician father, Mohombi escaped war torn Congo in his early teens. He then relocated to Stockholm where he tasted musical success for the first time, (with the African Grammy Award winning group Avalon which he founded with his brother), before ending up hanging with friends in LA, where he was instantly talent spotted by fellow semi-Swede and super producer RedOne (Lady Gaga, Usher, Lil Jon).
Flashforward to summer 2010 and RedOne has not only welcomed Mohombi into his hit making camp and produced his debut album, but he’s also made Mohombi the first signing to 2101 Records, the label he’s running with Universal Music Group.
Mohombi’s debut album (title TBA) is due for release by 2101/ Island Records in the UK in 2011 and features guest spots from Nelly and Nicole Sherzinger. Musically, the album draws on Mohombi's diverse cultural heritage to create a sonic style that is as unique and distinctive as it is universal. Combining African influences with a Global pop sensibility, Mohombi's sound is destined for worldwide success. MoreoverAnd if you think this is worth making a song and dance about then spot on: a gifted mover, Mohombi has brought every track on his album to life with an individually choreographed dance routine.
The first single to be released from Mohombi’s debut album in the UK will be the infectious ‘Miss Me’ featuring Nelly. Already a favorite on the Kiss FM playlist, ‘Miss Me’ feat. Nelly will sit as comfortably on radio airwaves as it will in the clubs. A guaranteed party anthem in the making, ‘Miss Me’ feat Nelly is so much worth making a song and dance about that Mohombi has choreographed a dance routine tailor made to its undulating groove, (as he has done with every track on the forthcoming album).
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Channel and North Sea, Mohombi is making waves with ‘Bumpy Ride’, his first international single release. Currently the most added to radio and hottest track in Europe and firing into the top 10’s of I tunes charts everywhere. While the video from ‘Bumpy Ride’ has notched up an impressive million plus plays within five days of it being uploaded to youtube.
