From David Lynch to Katy Perry to Jake Gyllenhaal, not to mention fellow-native director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) – who directed ‘Enter The Ninja’ – everyone has become fascinated with Die Antwoord… but who the fok are Die Antwoord?
The Cape-town trio’s story started in 2009, when lead MC Ninja, singer-rapper-sexpot Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek channelled their inner Zef energy to create a brand new style of music called Zef Rap-Rave.
The buzz started to build via the internet and rampant word-of-mouth and by the time 2009 became 2010 this mysterious band was becoming a viral phenomenon. With over seven million views for ‘Enter The Ninja’ on YouTube and rising, Die Antwoord will be releasing their debut album ‘$O$’ on October 11th through Interscope Records. The record features collaborations with South African Afrikaans-rapper Jack Parow (‘Doos Drunk’) and DJ/producer Diplo (‘Evil Boy’).
Outside of South Africa, Die Antwoord’s high-impact debut live show at Coachella proved they were the band you should keep an eye on and subsequently they landed an opening slot for M.I.A in New York and LA. They continued to wow audiences with their own energetic live shows throughout the summer across the US and Europe.
Die Antwoord will be bringing their energy back to the UK with a headline show at the London Scala this November– you’ve been warned…
