Colour of Sound release their stunning new single Open Room.
Taken form their debut album When, music fans will be enraptured by the release of their debut album WHEN, which overflows with a spell binding combination of soulful guitar rock, moving vocals, charming lyrics and an all round brilliant level of musicianship. Inspired by folk forefathers Neil Young and The Band, When will be released on Red Grape Records on 27th September 2010.
Colour of Sound are a group of musicians who write and perform with enough heart and soul to fill the Albert Hall and comprise of four immensely talented musicians: Rod da Rosa – lead vocals / Twin brothers Harry Mead – drums and Fraser MacColl – lead guitar ./ Jake Morley on bass
It’s more of a collective than a band because each member has their own solo projects that they each mutually support: Jake Morley will release his own album later this year. Harry Mead and Fraser McColl have had success with their own band; Fish! as well as performing with the likes of Ronan Keating and Luke Haines. This could be the very backbone of what makes Colour of Sound such an original and organic prospect.
“Simply jaw dropping in the space of 3 minutes – the phrase 'will piss over the competition' is as apt here as it was ever meant to sound.” – Losing Today
Recorded at The Dairy in Brixton, South London, WHEN is a ten track album which features songs written and sung by all four members of the band but predominantly by lead singer Rod da Rosa. It has been produced by Grammy Award winning producers Phill Brown and Calum MacColl who between them have worked with a stellar line up of musicians including Bob Marley, Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Kirsty MacColl and Bombay Bicycle Club. Together they steered a recording session that lasted a relatively short eight days with each of the tracks recorded live.
The opening song on the album ‘Take This Ride’, is a haunting ballad which blends vocals from all four band members. The single ‘Open Room’ will be followed by a second single ‘Here It Comes Again’ (15th Nov), which is an instant soother. Both tracks feature an infectious melody and song lyrics you’ll sing over and over as they take up residence in your head. ‘Pennylan Park’ is another unforgettable track which demonstrates Rod’s style of delivery which is powerful, gentle and mature. Hailing from Newport, Rod is no stranger to the music biz having been in indie Britpop outfit, ‘The Slides’.
