The debut single release on November 15 on Neon Gold (w/ remixes from Monsieur Adi, Warrior One and Ramadanman)
Hot off tour with Marina and the Diamonds, Spark ascension to pop stardom continues with the November 15 of her debut single ‘Revolving’ on Neon Gold. The 18-year-old from Walthamstow has created a genius mix of electro synth driven pop, gold dusted with a captivating Spark vocal which led her to ink a deal with 679 / Warner Bros. Records.
Spark, also known as Jess Morgan, has an enchanting mix of youthful innocence of a girl making her own music in her own way and the savvy, headstrong maturity of an artist who knows exactly who she is and where she is headed. Having started writing songs at the age of twelve, a serendipitous chain of events – including a school performance of Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ and meeting Marina – have taken Spark on a journey in which she’s become one of the hottest tips for 2011.
Already compared to an electro-pop inspired hybrid of Debbie Harry and Kate Bush, work is already well underway with Amir Amor (who NME recently named as one of the twenty hottest producers in music right now) on her debut album which will be released next year. As well as ‘Revolving’, a song about being bossed around that smartly marries the warmth of the first wave of electro-pop with modern, icy, uncluttered production, other songs set to feature include ‘Pieces’ which channels the spirit of Eighties-influenced songwriting with a bold, contemporary sound, and ‘Damage Done’ which sees her high-pitched vocal gift gliding over ethereal atmospherics and contagious hooks.
The single’s b-side ‘Wrap’ was a joke song that Spark wrote and produced at 4am on her laptop, after someone suggested she should rap. She programmed the bass, drums and synth using Logic and recorded her vocals using the laptop’s microphone.
As well as the tour with Marina and the Diamonds, Spark also recently played an NME Radar show at In The City. She’s now confirmed to tour with Black Cards, the new project from Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, and Diana Vickers, and also has a headline show at London’s YOYO confirmed for November 4.
